Quentin Tarantino is something of a film historian. He knows his stuff and is a true, blue movie geek. One of his favorite genres happens to be the Western. His last movie, Django Unchained, was an absolutely marvelous Western that seemed to show us that Tarantino and Westerns go together like Oreos and milk.
So it’s pretty awesome that he announced on Jay Leno the other night that the new script he’s working on is another Western. And no, it’s not a Django sequel. He told Leno:
I can’t talk that much about it, but I will say one thing. I haven’t told anyone about this publicly, but I will say the genre. It’s a western. It’s not a Django sequel, but it’s another Western. I had so much fun doing Django and I love westerns so much, that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like “OK, now let me make another one now that I know what I’m doing.”
What could it be about? There’s been talk it could be set in Australia, or even about abolitionist John Brown. Either way, it’s likely to be Tarantino at its core and probably involve revenge of some sort. Of course, things change and Tarantino could put down the project if he’s not happy with it and do something else.
Tarantino also discusses his writing style with Leno, saying that while he used to adventure to coffee shops to do his writing and creative juices flowing, he now prefers to stay at home and soak in ideas all day. It’s a fascinating look into the creative process of one of the best filmmakers we have. [via /Film]
